Our parent company, AltMet (Pty) Ltd was established in 2017 to commercialise a low energy process that was developed with Wits University over the preceeding 2 years. AltMet would go on to win numerous awards and raise seed funding from various stakeholders over the following 3 years to 2020.
AltMet Refining Services was incorporated as the operational subsidiary for the AltMet process in 2021 after closing off an initial round of seed funding which has been used for piloting the process and launching a semi commercial plant.
Our motivation is to locally process precious metal waste that is currently exported, by using innovative beneficiation processes to maximise extraction of value for all stakeholders.
Our vision is to be a pan-African processor and refinery of consumer wastes for sustainable recovery of precious metals as value added products.
Our mission is to extract value out of consumer wastes for all stakeholders by employing innovative metallurgy, optimised business processes and precious metal value addition.
We are currently building a state of the art analytical laboratory that will increase assaying efficiencies, reduce turnaround times and reduce settlement times for bulk suppliers of catalytic converter waste and electronic wastes to less than 2 working days. An expedited assaying process improves cash flows for our engaged stakeholders which improves their business models.
We also intend to role out a financial assistance program to some of our more promising small waste collectors. The financial assistance is expected to assist them scale their operations. We are also establishing a metal price hedging mechanism to assist our larger collectors establish more predictable operations.
We are consistently developing and improving the ARS process to accept different waste streams in order to diversify our suite of precious metal value added products. As such, we are always on the lookout for other consumer wastes that contain precious metals.
